The United States of America is overall popular with vacationers during the summer, but this is when American families pack everything up and head out on vacation also. To avoid the tremendous crowds, particularly throughout the numerous national parks, it is better to go during autumn or early spring.
The climate is temperate in most of the United States. Normally, it gets hotter the further south you travel and seasonally more extreme the further you are north and inland from the coastlines. Winters in the northeast and upper Midwest can result in long periods of below freezing temperatures even though it is still warm enough to swim at the beaches in Florida and southern California.
