A country this large has plenty to make it a year-round destination, yet most people visit when the weather is warmer, namely May to October. The tourist season peaks in July and August when schools and universities are on leave. It is a time when things can become extremely packed, especially in the tourist hot spots such as the Baltic beaches, Masurian Lakes, and Carpathian Mountains. Naturally, lodging will be difficult to find, and from time to time more costly.
If you want to avoid the crowds, the greatest time to arrive is either late spring/early summer in mid May to June, or the turn of summer and autumn usually September to October, when tourism is happening but not in full force. These are pleasingly warm periods, perfect for general sightseeing and outdoor activities such as walking, cycling, horse riding and canoeing. The ski season lasts from December to March. Zakopane, Poland's winter capital and the nearby Tatra Mountains have the greatest ski facilities.
